Elias is 9 months old today! He had his well-check this morning, so it’s time for a quick update.
Don’t get me started. Okay, this child is STILL waking 3 times a night. Sadly, this is an improvement. The past week or so, I’ve been trying something new. He goes down for the night at 7pm. I wake him for a dream feed at 9:30pm, which usually buys me until 1:30am. He wakes again around 4, and again around 6. Last night, he randomly slept from 9:30pm – 5am, though! Miracles!
He naps twice a day, at 9:15am and again around 1 or 2pm.
Elias is an awesome nurser, though he is at that acrobatic, easily distracted stage where he’s flipping and flopping like a beached whale, smacking my chest, yanking on my earrings (why the hell am I wearing earrings, anyway?), and ripping my hair out. He nurses probably 5 times during the day, and another 3-4 times at night.
He’s eating solids somewhat regularly now, usually a jar in the morning and another half or full jar for dinner. He loves protein blends (chicken and sweet potato, turkey and peas), smashed bananas, and egg yolks. He also LOVES fish!
I’ve given him some yogurt melt thingamajigs and he seems to do okay with small amounts. I’ve also given him puffs, but only gluten-free kinds for now.
I’m still dairy-free for nursing. Five months and counting! I’ll say that, although I don’t feel any different, not buying cheese, milk, yogurt, pizza, kefir, and all those cheese-filled processed snacks saves a lot of money on groceries. It’s also been easier for me to keep weight off.
Elias weighed in at 19.1 pounds and measured nearly 29 inches long. I guess it’s time to retire the infant seat. He’s wearing size 3 diapers and fits into 9-12 month and some 12-18 month clothing.
Elias does the same uneven crawling that Amaia did as an infant, which I now know is not a reason to panic. Phew! He is a master of getting into and out of a seated position all by himself, which is so cute to watch.
He recently had his first chiropractic adjustment, which resulted in him practicing this move. Eek!
Last month, we had our first family beach trip. Somehow, we survived. There was a gigantic beach cart involved, I’ll tell you that. Baby Brother crashed after a few hours in the sun.
We’re also working on some immunity building. Tree bark and sand, anyone?
- He has two bottom teeth
- He lifts his arms when I go to pick him up
- He pushes his hands through his sleeves when getting dressed
- He started babbling “mamamamama”, but he hasn’t associated it with me yet
- He dances to music. He definitely loves music and being sung to.
Overall, he’s a very sweet, mild-mannered baby. His smile is infectious and he has a gentle, kind face. People frequently remark on what a calm baby he is. Interestingly, he doesn’t want much to do with toys. Instead, he likes to follow his sisters around the house to interact with them.
The girls adore him, especially the twins. They play with him, sing to him, and try to calm him down when he cries. Amaia gets a little nasty with him at times, stealing things from him and not letting him touch her stuff. I guess she’s finally getting to redeem herself after two years of mild torture from her older sisters.
He’s earned the nickname “The Roomba” because he’s always finding every piece of life-threatening detritus on the ground and sticking it in his mouth. The other day, I pulled a freaking STAPLE out of his mouth. For real.
It’s amazing to think that we’re just three months away from his first birthday. I feel like things are finally getting better!
