Just wanted to share my story with hospitals and bills.

When my son was 6 months old we drove ourselves to the nearest ER. That ER didn't have a pediatric unit. We were FORCED to take the ambulance (he only had a broken leg) but said we could drive him ourselves, but we were told about standard procedures and how insurance would cover the ambulance.

We never got a bill or anything from the hospital that day or the ambulance. SO......we assumed everything was squared away. Five months later my mother in law (how on EARTH did they get her address??) gets a bill from the collection agency from the hospital and that day.....and she calls us. We were confused.

**Understand that credit history and credit rating are both way more important to my husband than anything else in this whole entire world. Some men have football, some men have porn......my husband has CREDIT HISTORY!!***

Anyway, I started by calling the hospital and they tried to make it all my fault for 'filling out the wrong address'. The address I supposedly filled out was one that my husband lived WHILE GROWING UP. I never knew this address. ((Clerical error on behalf of the person working the computer))

They pulled the bill out of collections and then sent us a bill for about $4,000. We had insurance but a lot of stuff wasn't covered including the entire ambulance ride. I was furious.

I called and called and called and argued with the people at the hospital. Eventually, I get a call from some big wig from the hospital and they admitted to screwing up on the bills, they admitted to screwing up on the ambulance and they apologized over the phone, told me that everything would be written off and sent a letter of apology with conformation that the bill was written off.

I had a pretty good case because I had written down names that I remembered, conversations that I had with hospital staff at the first and second hospital.......I really think they were afraid of being sued. Which, I probably could have....but I was more focused on getting my son better, and continue to focus my energy on his health.
