Sleeping

April 27, 2009   4 Comments

The girls’ sleeping habits are changing.

We’ve used a wedge with both of them for a while. At first, it was to try and even out their once-flattened heads (which have rounded out significantly since they started rolling and spending a lot more time on their bellies). Once they started rolling over, the wedges helped keep them from sleeping on their stomachs.

Though Elise conforms comfortably to the wedge, it’s just a speed bump as far as Althea is concerned. She easily rolls over it to sleep however she damn well pleases.

Sometimes, she’ll lie on her side. I don’t know why, but I find it so endearingly grown-up looking.

Lately, though, she’ll roll over the wedge and just sleep on her stomach. This was a problem when at first because she’d get on her belly and FREAK THE HELL OUT, which meant mama had to get up multiple times and flip her back over. Then, she started getting limbs caught in between the crib slats, prompting us to buy these insanely expensive breathable crib bumpers. ($28? Are you out of your mind? I have two babies to buy these for. Two of these bumpers and a box of Pampers, even with a 15% off coupon and a $5 off coupon, was still almost $100. For three things! WTF!)

There’s not much I can do about it anymore. Since she can roll herself over both ways, I’m technically not supposed to worry about it.

The real issue now is that she rubs her nose raw on the crib sheet and wakes up looking like a drunk on New Year’s Eve. (See also Althea. Seriously.)

Ok seriously. Althea and my Aubrielle are way too much alike. First the serious look and now this? Aubrielle rubs her nose raw also. I use Eucerin Aquaphor on her nose every morning which helps but I haven’t figured out how to prevent it.

They are both so adorable. I wish I could squeeze ‘em in person. She’ll figure out how to comfortably sleep on her stomach pretty soon without rubbin her nose raw, don’t worry. Lexi, now 18+ month old, sleeps on her stomach most of the time, with her butt straight up in the air. I’d take a picture if I thought she’d sleep through it and not try to climb out to come see the picture.

a) Those sheets are really cute, and Althea is beyond adorable (well, so is Elise, but she’s not in the pictures!)

b) When Andy started sleeping on his tummy, he would wake up with the bright red nose too. Since my grandparent are Irish, we would sing a lot of Irish drinking songs in the morning! Or Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer. Sometimes his cheeks would get really red too, it was supper funny. I think his skin toughened up or something though, because it hasn’t looked that way in a while.

c) Thank you so much for the lotion rec. I’m going to go try and find it today. I bought some pricy Mustella stuff, for the bath, but it didn’t seem to help. I think a lotion, rather than a bath additive would be a better bet.

Ahhh! They are SOO cute! As for the sleep positioner – we wrap Lennon AND the sleep positioner in a recieving blanket and that keeps her in it for most of the night, most of the time. ;) We fold the blanket long-ways and wrap it around like a belt.
