Week 10 Update

May 7, 2008   No Comments

week 10 pregnant with twinsWell, today marks week 10. It seems like nothing changes, but so much happens. The big milestone this week is that the babies are no longer embryos and are now called now fetuses!

I am now having trouble zipping up my trusty green shorts (which I have worn in a few of my belly pics). Even some underwear is getting uncomfortable. I’m going to have to stick to the low-rider skivvies to avoid another day like today. You can see in this belly photo all the marks from my underwear. And this was not 5 minutes after getting dressed. Yeah, things are getting tight.

I am pretty exhausted still, and the nausea still hasn’t given up hold just yet. But it seems like I get a little more relief all the time. The queasiness wasn’t that bad at all today (though my energy sucked).

I get lightheaded really easily. I’m also finding it a little bit difficult to eat a full-sized meal. I’m getting full easily, especially at dinner. But I’m starving in the morning. Today I had not one, not two, but three breakfasts. And I was still counting down the minutes till lunch. I also peed no less than 40 times.

So far, I’ve gained 5.5 pounds. I’m supposed to gain between 35 – 45. Twins’ average gestation is 36 weeks, so I guess I’ve got 26 weeks to come up with another 30 pounds at least. Damn, that’s more than a pound a week. I’m going to consult with the doctor on that. I just don’t see how it can happen without eating seriously caloric shit.

My mental state is a different story. I’m having a very tough time staying motivated and concentrating at work. My tolerance is growing short and I’ve reached critical mass in terms of the number of projects and people I can handle right now. I’m forgetting things. I’m getting a little clumsy and dense. Last night, I made Greek meatballs and, when reaching for a raw meatball to throw into the oil, I accidentally stuck my hand in the boiling oil instead.

On the bright side, we’re set to tell the folks this Sunday (Mother’s Day). And I have next Friday off so that Chris and I can go to the Space Coast to celebrate our third wedding anniversary! Yay.
