Twice as Nice

9 weeks twins

I had my second OB appointment today. Did the pap, boob smash, long medical history, etc etc. At the end, the nurse was leaving and my husband asked, “No ultrasound?” She said no, it’s too early. We insisted… “But the doctor said you’d do an ultrasound if you couldn’t hear the heartbeat!”

She relented. She first tried to find the heartbeat with the Doppler, but no dice. So she sent us to the tech, who decided to do a vaginal ultrasound instead of an abdominal one.

Not two seconds after inserting the probe, the tech gasped and threw her hand over her mouth.

Panicked, my husband and I both screamed, “WHAT?!???”

The tech held up two fingers. “There’s two in there!”

TWINS!!!! AAAAHHH!!!

I’ve never laughed so hard and long in my life. I was crying and laughing at the same time. WTF did we do to get two in there?!???

Both babies look great! Both are measuring at 8 weeks, 6 days, so pretty much right on target (still have the EDD of December 3). Twin A’s heart rate was at 173, Twin B at 171.

I am in TOTAL shock. NO ONE on EITHER side of the family has any multiples that I know of. We both apparently have fraternals in our families. I wasn’t on any drugs at all! This was a total random incident.

This means I won’t be able to do a birth center birth, but the gal at the bc did recommend some OBs that are more supportive of non-intervention. We’ll see.

Here are the ultrasound pics and week 9 belly pic.
